6. Community Service Ministries

We hear often from the Christian community about the importance of our institutions like Galmi and Danja in Nigerien society. Even non-SIM related church members are proud of Galmi Hospital, our medical centers at Danja and the Sowing Seeds of Change in the Sahel project in Maradi. These programs touch people in a personal way.

Galmi Hospital is probably our most well-known institution in Niger. It has been said that everyone in Niger knows someone who has been treated at Galmi Hospital. Galmi offers quality care in obstetrics, outpatient care and has an advanced surgical program including a five-year surgical residence program accredited through the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS). Galmi also offers a program hope to people living with AIDS.

The Danja Fistula Center (DFC) and the Centre de Sante et de Leprologie (CSL) have an important opportunity to share Christ with some of the most marginalized people in Nigerien society. There is a strong component of rehabilitation involved with fistula work as with leprosy. This extended contact with people is a discipleship context where the gospel can take root in the hearts of people.

Sowing Seeds of Change in the Sahel (SSCS) seeks to glorify God working in agricultural development and community health in an area renown for frequent famines, rapid population growth and low life expectancy. Our demonstration farm works with a few people at a time and seeks to apply biblical principals wherever possible while health teaching is accompanied by Bible storying. We aim to change hearts, minds and ultimately behavior and to provide hope – for this life and for the life to come.
